Understanding Discernment: What is it and Why is it Important?

Welcome back to IWriteChristian. As a part of this space, I will be sharing the wisdom given to me by God in the form of ‘series’, here on our blog and podcast ‘IWriteChristian’.

Here is: Understanding Discernment.

Lately and since forever, I’ve met many walls and frustrations. Many angers. They all have one thing in common, discernment and the lack thereof within spaces and communities meant to ‘assist’ God’s people.

I’ve witnessed many people mislead, and be misled, including myself, due to the lack of discernment and understanding of God.

And even further, for some, the lack of the Holy Spirit.

God has taught me many things and has allowed me to experience many things. I am here to share what I’ve learned so far, in hopes to give God’s children and future believers any knowledge I can so that they can avoid many dangers.

What is it?

Discerning is the ability to understand what you see, hear, and sense entirely. Both physically and spiritually.

In the case that we’re going to cover, it’s the God given ability to understand and distinguish what is true and what is false. What is God, and what is not.

Why is it important?

Discernment is important because when you’re a Christian, you must be able to distinguish between what’s right and what’s not. What’s God and what’s not.

It is simply that.

Not being able to discern can lead you down the wrong paths, following the wrong people. And doing the wrong things.

As God’s children, we can have peace knowing that our lives are in His hands, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t know better so that we can avoid many dangers.

When God places His Holy Spirit in us, discernment is one of the things we can expect Him to teach us.

Here is the basis of discernment:

Only God knows Himself and only Jesus has seen the Father. Therefore, the only person capable of teaching and revealing the truth of God to us is the Holy Spirit.

So, discernment, with this in mind, is also the ability to sense and understand what the Holy Spirit is revealing to us about a subject.

Again, when it comes to understanding God and the truth of Him, we can only rely on the Holy Spirit. So, what does this mean for us?

We must be dwelt in by the Holy Spirit, otherwise we are to be deceived and misunderstand God.

The Holy Spirit is a gift from God, just like our salvation through Jesus Christ, by which we are able to receive the Holy Spirit.

God’s plan to be sure that His children know and understand Him, even to be able to share the truth about Him to others, is iron clad, in that we need Him, the only one who can, to do so.

And you cannot replicate God.

Lets finish this conversation on our podcast ‘IWriteChristian’.

Until then.
